Some People Just Piss Me Off

At my school, every once in a while a geography class will go around the school and dump out all the recycle bins. Sometimes, other classes will take a turn too.

Today, some other class was supposed to do the recycling bins, but because for some reason they couldn't, my teacher volunteered our class instead.

We didn't really mind because it meant no work :) But there were a lot of bins, and we were a small class, so it took the whole period to get through the whole school. And there are also really disgusting moments, like when you pick up a bin and your hands get all sticky because an open bottle spilled who-knows-what all over the bin. And after you dump everything out, only to find that the bottom of the bin is covered with bits of candy, gum and various other I-don't-wanna-know-what-that-is substances.

recycling dumpster
Yeah, one of these things. Is it called a dumpster?
Anyhow, while my partner and I were bringing the last few bins outside to the giant recycling box (is it called a dumpster?), we found that one of our classmates, Sparrow (no, that's not his real name), was standing inside the thing. And then I noticed that he was looking for something in all those papers, and that there was this girl standing outside the giant recycling box, peering inside. My teacher, my partner and I, and a few of my other classmates were standing around, waiting for them to finish so that we could dump out our black-boxes.

It turned out that the girl had lost some of her papers, and she thought that they might be in the recycling bins that we were dumping out. The papers included her notes for a speech, something to do with her art summative, and something else. She said that they were very important and that she didn't think she could duplicate them, so she really needed to find the papers. And Sparrow, being a really nice guy, was actually standing inside the dirty recycling dumpster, trying to find her papers among the thousands of other papers in there.

And the girl just stood there, watching.

After a while, we were getting impatient, and my teacher politely hinted that if she wanted to find the papers faster, maybe she should get in there too. I don't know if the girl didn't hear or ignored her, but either way, she just continued standing there, watching.

To speed up the process, another one of my classmates jumped into the giant recycling box thingy to help search for the papers. Within seconds, he had found 2 of the three items. The girl thanked him, and my two classmates continued to search through the giant mass of papers for the third item.

And still the girl just stood there. Watching.

By this time we were all getting pretty impatient, and the teacher again hinted, though not as subtly as before, that the girl should also climb in there to search for her own papers.

And do I even have to say it?

Finally, after a long time, the girl saw the impatient looks my teacher was shooting her and took the hint. She again thanked the guys for helping and left.

And that's the end of my story.

Why did I just tell you all of that? Well mostly because the whole thing kind of pissed me off. If I losed something important to me, sure I might ask other people for help, but I certainly wouldn't just stand back and let everyone else do all the work. The fact that that girl just stood back, relaxed, and watched while two other people got their hands dirty to help her really irks me.

What, was she afraid to get her own hands dirty? So what? I wouldn't like it either, but you can't ask of other people what you yourself won't do.

And that, boys and girls, is the moral of the story.

On another note, this is stuck in my head right now thanks to Sarah ;)

Love ya :)

Plastic Surgery to Look Like Jennifer Lawrence?

I think this is a bit extreme.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Woman spends $25,000 on cosmetic surgeries to resemble Jennifer Lawrence

ANDREW RYAN
The Globe and Mail

Just how far will the average person go to look like his or her favourite celebrity?

Or more to the point, how much will they spend?

In the case of a young Texas woman named Kitty (not her real name), the price tag was $25,000 (U.S.), which she happily dropped toward the bizarre goal of resembling Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence.

So why take such extreme measures? In the pre-op interview, Kitty said, “I can appreciate that her personality is spunky and fun. I can appreciate that her body is banging.”

A big part of the inspiration, claimed Kitty, was that friends and strangers alike kept telling her how much she already looks like Lawrence.

Said Kitty: “I’m not trying to look like Pamela Anderson during her Baywatch days. I’m trying to look like a very capable, very personal level-headed female who is an Academy Award winner.”

Yep, that sounds like ample rationale to go under the knife.

Kitty also allowed that, as a mother, she wanted to get back her post-baby body.

“The reason why I decided to get surgery is because post having my daughter, I wasn’t quite as comfortable with my body,” she said on Nightline. “I don’t think you have to be crazy to want to look better or feel better about yourself. That’s not crazy.”

The Nightline segment tracked Kitty’s four weeks of surgery that took place in February at the First Surgical Hospital in Houston and cost her approximately $25,000 (that figure was already minus the discount deducted by plastic surgeons for the publicity).

In brisk succession, Kitty had liposuction performed on her face and body, a breast augmentation, rhinoplasty and fat grafts to her cheeks and buttocks.

All told, the procedures took an estimated six hours on the table, which was followed by several weeks of recovery for Kitty.

Kitty’s surgeon, Dr. Franklin Rose, said that he routinely tracks the mental well-being of patients who request celebrity lookalike makeovers.

“You can tell very quickly, within a matter of a minute, if the patient is well-adjusted or not well-adjusted for whatever the procedure they might present,” Dr. Rose told Nightline.

Dr. Rose also said that he’s seen a growing number of women requesting famous-people makeovers.

“Patients come in wanting to have lips like Angelina Jolie, breasts like Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox,” he said.

But in Kitty’s case, all she wanted was to look like the star of American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. The post-op tension was sustained throughout the Nightline segment right up to the moment of the big unveiling.

Kitty didn’t actually look a whole lot like Jennifer Lawrence, but she seemed more than happy with the results, which only shows that celebrity makeover beauty is more in the eye of the subject than the beholder.

The more shocking reveal: Kitty admitted that the money she had spent was originally intended to start a college fund for her daughter.

“Basically the money that I had for this was money that I had saved from a previous job,” rationalized Kitty. “So it was sort of a ‘me fund.’ My child’s only 5 and I’m still just barely 30, so I still feel it’s naivete, but I still have some time to rack up some money to help her when the time comes.”

Hello, Kitty, that time already came and went.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I love Jennifer Lawrence. She's funny, beautiful, and an amazing actress. But for me, to have your entire body completely remade to look like someone else's, no matter whose it is, is not right. And just a little bit creepy.

No one is perfect. Everyone has their own imperfections, and while I don't think I'll be loving my imperfections anytime soon, I would not go as far as to remodel my body to resemble someone else's. I think that that is disrespectful to my own body.

Of course, this is just my own personal opinion, and I respect that other people may have a different view on this subject. Feel free to disagree with me, but no hating please :)

Also, THIS SONG IS AMAZING!! :D

Bye bye :)

I Believe by Bro'sis

What's currently stuck in my head:

Listen to it. Just LISTEN to it. Isn't that amazing?? My friend just showed it to me yesterday, and I already love it. This is now one of my favourite songs :)

My taste in music has changed a lot over the last few years. In grade 6 and 7 Taylor Swift was my favourite singer, hands down. In grade 8 it was Ke$ha and Avril Lavigne. Then I hit high school, and I kind of stopped listening to music for a while, partly because I was busy, and partly because I'm just lazy like that.

After that, once I started to listen to music again, it was a big mix of a bunch of random songs from different artists and genres. I don't actually care what language the songs I listen to are in anymore, though I prefer for them to be in English. I just listen to whatever sounds good to me :)

What kind of music do you listen to?

Much Love,
