Some People Just Piss Me Off

At my school, every once in a while a geography class will go around the school and dump out all the recycle bins. Sometimes, other classes will take a turn too.

Today, some other class was supposed to do the recycling bins, but because for some reason they couldn't, my teacher volunteered our class instead.

We didn't really mind because it meant no work :) But there were a lot of bins, and we were a small class, so it took the whole period to get through the whole school. And there are also really disgusting moments, like when you pick up a bin and your hands get all sticky because an open bottle spilled who-knows-what all over the bin. And after you dump everything out, only to find that the bottom of the bin is covered with bits of candy, gum and various other I-don't-wanna-know-what-that-is substances.

recycling dumpster
Yeah, one of these things. Is it called a dumpster?
Anyhow, while my partner and I were bringing the last few bins outside to the giant recycling box (is it called a dumpster?), we found that one of our classmates, Sparrow (no, that's not his real name), was standing inside the thing. And then I noticed that he was looking for something in all those papers, and that there was this girl standing outside the giant recycling box, peering inside. My teacher, my partner and I, and a few of my other classmates were standing around, waiting for them to finish so that we could dump out our black-boxes.

It turned out that the girl had lost some of her papers, and she thought that they might be in the recycling bins that we were dumping out. The papers included her notes for a speech, something to do with her art summative, and something else. She said that they were very important and that she didn't think she could duplicate them, so she really needed to find the papers. And Sparrow, being a really nice guy, was actually standing inside the dirty recycling dumpster, trying to find her papers among the thousands of other papers in there.

And the girl just stood there, watching.

After a while, we were getting impatient, and my teacher politely hinted that if she wanted to find the papers faster, maybe she should get in there too. I don't know if the girl didn't hear or ignored her, but either way, she just continued standing there, watching.

To speed up the process, another one of my classmates jumped into the giant recycling box thingy to help search for the papers. Within seconds, he had found 2 of the three items. The girl thanked him, and my two classmates continued to search through the giant mass of papers for the third item.

And still the girl just stood there. Watching.

By this time we were all getting pretty impatient, and the teacher again hinted, though not as subtly as before, that the girl should also climb in there to search for her own papers.

And do I even have to say it?

Finally, after a long time, the girl saw the impatient looks my teacher was shooting her and took the hint. She again thanked the guys for helping and left.

And that's the end of my story.

Why did I just tell you all of that? Well mostly because the whole thing kind of pissed me off. If I losed something important to me, sure I might ask other people for help, but I certainly wouldn't just stand back and let everyone else do all the work. The fact that that girl just stood back, relaxed, and watched while two other people got their hands dirty to help her really irks me.

What, was she afraid to get her own hands dirty? So what? I wouldn't like it either, but you can't ask of other people what you yourself won't do.

And that, boys and girls, is the moral of the story.

On another note, this is stuck in my head right now thanks to Sarah ;)

ALWAYS Try On Your Clothes Before You Buy Them

So recently my whole family went to send off my older sister in another city, where she'll be living from now on because of her job. It takes about three and a half hours to get there, without traffic.

After we had dropped off all her stuff at her new place, we went to a nearby shopping mall to buy anything else she might need. The mall was 5 minutes away by car, and it had everything.

EVERYTHING!! It had the grocery stores and other stuff, but the clothes. Oh, the clothes. There was Suzy, Urban Planet, Simons and sooo much more. (Btw those are some of my favourite stores.) SHE'S SO LUCKY!!! That's not even fair :(

Anyway, after we'd pretty much finished shopping there, we were on our way out. The closest exit to our car was in Simon's, so we were just passing through, but we were also looking around a bit at the clothes. While we were passing through/looking around, I saw this pretty red short sleeved long sweater thingy. GAH I suck at explaining :( Maybe I'll take a picture. Or not. Ack whatever.

So because the sizes are kind of weird at Simon's I tried on a small (I'm usually a medium). It fit perfectly, and I really liked it. It was just a bit tight taking it off though, so I grabbed a medium instead. And because we were sort of in a hurry, I didn't try this one on. We just payed for it and left.

When we got home, I tried the size medium on and what do you know, it's too big. Not by a lot, but whereas the size small fit perfectly, this one is baggy in all the wrong places. Specifically, the tummy area. The sweater makes it look like I have no waist at all, and it's just GUH. And there are no Simon's where I live, so I can't just return it. And now I'm like:
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
So that's my little story/rant. Now I'm all sad and frustrated.

But seriously. Why, life, why?

P.S. I just wrote the literacy test today!! It was easy.

P.P.S. BUT WHAT IF I FAILED??!! :S

IT'S MARCH BREAK

As you can probably tell from the title, IT'S MARCH BREAK.

fangirling minions

AND YET - I have homework.

Whaaaat?

Yes, yes I know. Be outraged along with me. I mean, even the teachers are somewhat ashamed of it. This is what my geography teacher said after he gave us a big assignment that from the looks of it would take a while:

Class: So is this due after the March Break?

(class stares intently at the teacher)

Geo Teacher: Well, I'm gonna give you some class time today to work on it, but, um...uh..yeah, it's due after the Break.

(half the class groans and the other half glares at him)

Outdoor Education:
The class before, the teacher told us that we were going to have a ski trip the very next class. And yes, he had only decided to tell us about this the class before. I wanted to go, but I already knew right then that I couldn't because the day of the ski trip I already had a French test and a History debate. While I obviously didn't want to do either, I also didn't want to do an extra assignment for History or a makeup test for French later on. So anyway, the O.E. teacher gave us an assignment.

The day of the trip, the supply teacher handed out the assignment sheets. It was one page long, and it was COVERED in questions that he had never even talked about. I mean, how I am supposed to know what a camber is??? And not only that, but he actually wants it typed up, written in paragraphs, with a title page and all that shiz. Do you have any idea how long that's gonna take??

Science class:
He decided to do a lab on the class before the Break. And what does that mean? Lab discussion questions for homework.

Math class:
She gave us some extra homework. And what was her excuse?
"It's not homework for March Break, it's homework for tonight."

stunned minion

Why yes, of course. Like we can fit math, science, geography AND science homework all into one night??

So yeah. Those are my awesome teachers. (Some of them actually are awesome, by the way, they're just not awesome right now.) Anyway, I'm going to try to finish everything by this Sunday (like that's gonna happen *snort*), so that for the rest of the break I can do whatever. And for me, "whatever" includes PJs all day long, eating junk food, reading books, blogging some more, surfing the net, and eating. Did I say eating twice?

I'm not actually going to go anywhere for the Break. I don't really mind, because it would just be a hassle, and I don't really want to look at myself in a swimsuit right now (haha). I'd rather stay at home and just relax.

Ugh homework. Homework homework homework. STUPID HOMEWORK!!

P.S. I swear (or not) that by the end of the year the "homework" tag at the bottom of the page is going to be one of the biggest.

P.P.S. As you can probably tell, I love minions ^_^

P.P.S. Happy International Women's Day!!

What I Hate About Holidays

As you all know, March Break is coming up really soon. YAY, right? No, not right. Well - kind of right. Sort of.

Don't get me wrong - I love March Break. How could I not? Sleeping in, little/no homework and staying in your PJs all day long. How awesome is that? But the price of it all certainly isn't.

Every time there's a holiday, teachers pile up the homework and assignments and make them all due right before the break, because they all say that they don't want to give us homework during the break. I really do appreciate this, but what I do not appreciate is the fact that I now have:

  • a chemistry test
  • a Careers presentation
  • a Careers project with multiple parts
  • a 1-page-long poem, single spaced
  • a French test
  • a French presentation
  • a History debate
  • a mini-essay for Saturday language school
  • some other minor pieces of homework
all due before the break.

Yeah, you read that right. And this doesn't just happen every March Break, it also happens before Christmas Break, the end of the school year and right before report cards are due. Do you know how annoying that is?? It's like the homework is saying "If you wanna get to March Break you're gonna have to get through us first."

But is that really necessary?? I mean, couldn't the teachers spread the assignments out a little more so that we wouldn't have a mountain of assignments to work through? Is that too much to ask for?? It is stressful, and it means that we have to sacrifice even more precious sleep.
Sleep? Yes, I have a vague recollection of what that was like.
So now I have a ginormous pile on my desk, and it is all the subjects in which I have an assignment due, at the latest, in about 1 week's time. This stack of homework is possible because I'm in IB, which already means a larger-than-normal workload, the teachers love piling everything up last-minute, and to top it all off, I go to a non-semestered school, which means I take all 8 subjects the whole school year. How great for me, right?!

Stupid, stupid school. Stupid, stupid homework. Go and die.

kill it with fire

So. Damn. UNFAIR.

Some people aren't really comfortable talking about periods, which is fine, but as for me, I don't really care. It's not like it's inappropriate or anything. But if you aren't comfortable with talking about periods, then you might want to skip this post (which is also a bit of a rant).

(Side Note: Speaking of, I found some really creative and totally unnecessary ways of saying "period":

  • "riding the cotton pony" (LOL)
  • "having the painters in"
  • "the crimson wave"
  • "opening the flood gates"
  • "the red river"
  • "shark week"(the idea behind this one is kind of freaky...)
  • "leak week" (totally appropriate for me -_-)
  • "on the blob" )
Anyway, back on topic.

The shit we have to deal with when it comes to periods:

  • buying/packing pads, tampons, etc.
I don't usually mind buying them, but when you need them and you realize you don't have them, that's when it gets really annoying. This also applies to when you're at school or somewhere else in public, and you go to the wash room to find out that it's that time of month again. And of course, you don't have any pads with you, because your life is just that perfect. So what do you do? You finish up your business in the washroom, and leave. And if you're lucky, you'll have a few backup pads in your locker. If you're not, then go ask for some from a friend. If you're really not lucky, then you're just gonna have to deal with the constant fear of a huge red splotch appearing on the crotch of your jeans for the rest of the day.
So fun.

  • FREAKING CRAMPS
You won't understand what these are like unless you get them. They're different from eating too much and your stomach hurting. This feels different, and a lot worse. And all you want to do is just curl up in a ball and cry cuz it hurts so damn much. It looks something like this:

cramps 1

cramps 2
And the whole time you're thinking:
God Fucking Damnit

And of course, you can't roll around in a ball if you're in public. Which, unfortunately, you want to do quite a lot.
Some people's cramps actually aren't that bad. However, other people get it really bad. Some of them even have to go to the hospital because of it.
As for me, my cramps aren't so bad that I have to call 911, but mine are still a lot worse than many people's. Seems to run in the family :/ I even fainted once. I would tell the story, but this post is getting long, so I'll tell it some other time.

  • waking up in the middle of the night and finding out that there's blood all over the sheets
This happens to me quite often. I'll wake up in the middle of the night when its still dark outside (and inside), and I'll be thinking (cuz I'm still half-asleep), "It's time for school already?" And then I'll realize that there's something wet and sticky sticking to my butt. Then I groan mentally, force myself to get up, take off the sheets, walk to the bathroom, and wash all the bloodstains out of everything by hand. And I can't just leave it until after I've gotten a good night's sleep, cuz by then the blood will have dried and it will be harder to wash the blood out.
All this when everyone else is still sleeping and I really wish I was too.
After everything is washed and I've gotten some new sheets, which usually takes around half an hour, I'll try to go back to sleep. But I can't. Because now I'm fully awake and have to lie in bed for another half hour before I can finally fall asleep again.
Guess who's in a good mood the next morning?
what is sleep - Patrick
This is actually also a very appropriate description for being in IB.
Not me.

  • leaking in public
This one is actually the reason why I'm writing this post. It happened to me today (again).

I was sitting at my desk at my Saturday language school, and the teacher was talking about something no one really cares about. Everything was normal, fine, and dandy.
And then I felt it. It was this warm trickle of liquid slowly sliding down my leg. It didn't take much time for me to realize what it was, but I still sat there for a few more seconds hoping that it was just a figment of my imagination. Obviously, it didn't go away.
I put my hand up. The teacher took no notice. I put my hand up a little higher - still nothing. By now I was starting to freak out a bit because I knew that the splotch was growing and I wanted to be out of there before someone noticed. So I stood up, walked over to her and politely waited for her to notice me. She didn't. I was like I'M RIGHT OVER HERE CAN YOU NOT SEE ME LIKE WTF finally managed to squeeze in my question to go to the washroom while she wasn't talking, and then she finally looked at me, and said yes.
I basically ran all the way to the washroom and when I got there, voila! There was a patch of blood about the size of my palm (and I have big hands) on my jeans, along with a few smaller ones as well. And I just stared at them, thinking, "What a perfect, f***ing, day." But there wasn't much I could do about it, so I tried to wipe them down a little bit and then I walked back to my classroom. And for the next half hour or so, I had to walk around with a wet spot on my jeans, which is EXTREMELY uncomfortable, while constantly being paranoid that someone would notice the gigantic red spot on my crotch.
And yes, I was pissed.

So that's my rant. It turned out to be with a bit longer than I originally intended it to be, but oh well.

Moral of the story: girls have to put up with a lot of unfair shit.

And now for some math... *sigh*
